Introducing Crustacea, Pegasus & Stag: New Sculpture & Jewelry by Dave Stevenson  @ Les Artisans, St-Barthélemy, F.W.I.

Raise a glass¬†and¬†toast our tenth anniversary!¬†Sculptor Dave Stevenson and Galerie Les Artisans in Saint-Barth√©lemy, F.W.I.¬†celebrate a decade of collaboration with a champagne reception Friday, February 11th, 6-9pm. Meet the audacious yellow Crustacea and¬†Pegasus, a bronze,¬†limited edition of eight. Crustacea‚Äôs soaring curves change direction like a bird in flight, as if simultaneously airborne and alighting. Regal and ponderous, Pegasus halts mid-stride and¬†considers its next move. The two sculptures are brethren; they both arose from two halves of a larger sculpture that broke apart not long after conception.¬†They share a ‚Äúrib‚ÄĚ!

Stevenson will also debut new works from his unusual jewelry collection. Stag, an aptly named reversible sterling silver pendant can be worn in two different positions. It has a tribal feel one way and a rugged, Wild West look when inverted.

>Les Artisans gallery hours: 9:00 a.m. ‚Äď 7:00 p.m. daily. (0)590.27.50.40 (dir: Jo-Anne Quetel)

Stevenson‚Äôs sculptures can be seen in the New York City headquarters of Pfizer Inc., the office of film director James Cameron, and in many private collections across the States and abroad. The stainless steel wall-relief he created for Lightstorm Entertainment is a 3-D interpretation of Cameron‚Äôs company logo. An animated version of it appears at the head of the Lightstorm films True Lies and Strange Days. In 2005, the artist was commissioned by acclaimed DVD producer Van Ling to commemorate the creation of Paramount/Fox‚Äôs TITANIC: Special Collector‚Äôs Edition DVD set. The limited edition sculpture/pendant/lapel pin was presented by Ling to 100 cast and crew members of Cameron‚Äôs 1997 blockbuster. Another notable commission was a commemorative bracelet celebrating former president Bill Clinton‚Äôs 60th birthday. Stevenson‚Äôs 18K white gold design was auctioned at the William J. Clinton Foundation fundraiser held at the Museum of Natural History. Recent projects include a multi-media collaboration with Seattle-based choreographer Cheronne Wong, for which the artists were awarded four grants. The show had its New York premiere in May of 2009, at the Joyce Theatre in SoHo. In 2007, Stevenson created the Inspiration bracelet-cuff & bangle series to raise money for Parkinson‚Äôs disease research. 40% of the purchase price is donated to Parkinson‚Äôs Unity Walk in Marlene Kahan‚Äôs name, a personal friend of the artist who has early-onset Parkinson‚Äôs. To date, $20,000.00 in direct donations have been raised so far. ¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Stevenson‚Äôs jewelry has appeared on the VH1 Classic, Fuse and Fine Living television networks, and several designs are in the costume collections of the ABC soaps All My Children and One Life to Live. People, Seventeen, Redbook, Lucky, Harper‚Äôs Bazaar, Town and Country, AARP, Self, and St. Barth Weekly magazines have all featured Stevenson‚Äės artwork. A graduate of The College of William and Mary, Stevenson is represented by Les Artisans in Saint-Barth√©lemy, F.W.I., and Old Main Gallery in Bozeman, MT. Stevenson currently resides in Manhattan.
