The Brothers Griffon: NEW Bronze Sculpture
Patina application on #1-2/5, Griffon(s), NEW bronze series!
My dear friend and long time collaborator, Karl Reichley (CA), flew out to spend a week in CO & WY to help me conjure stunning, original patinas for four new bronzes: Griffon & Crazyhorse (the first two of each series). As with most of my bronze portfolio, these are small editions—limited to 5 each—plus a couple of artist’s proofs. (I’ll upload another 25 sec. video of Crazyhorse later.) For me, patina application is the most important and my favorite part of the casting process. While the foundry this time did the bulk of the finishing work, I did a quite a bit of pre-patina fine tuning with my vast collection of specialized Swiss files and air tools to hone the edges and true-up the (endless!) compound curves. Karl & I typically share & debate ideas for a bit, then dive in & improvise; it’s a wild, intense, semi-predictable back-and-forth…
>Special thanks to Cheyenne sculptor, Carey Hosterman, for his generosity & sense of humor as we “burned the house down” @ his incredible Rocky Mountain Bronze Shop.<
