The Brothers Griffon: NEW Bronze Series
Patina application on #1-2/5, Griffon(s), NEW bronze series!
My dear friend and long time collaborator, Karl Reichley (CA), flew out to CO last week to help me conjure these stunning, original patinas for my new bronzes: Griffon & Crazyhorse (the first two of each series). For me, patina application is the most important and my favorite part of the casting process. Karl & I typically share & debate ideas for a bit, then dive in & improvise; it’s a wild, intense, semi-predictable back-and-forth. While the foundry this time did the bulk of the finishing work, I did a quite a bit of pre-patina fine-tuning with my vast collection of specialized Swiss files and air tools. Polishing the surface before patina allows the intricately layered colors & effects to achieve their full radiance/translucence.
As with most of my bronze portfolio, Griffon (45”h) is a small, limited edition of 5 (plus a couple of artist’s proofs).
