One sunny morning after working late to finish a new sculpture, I entered the studio to a startling sight; my new piece was staring right back at me. Did it come alive overnight? Blood red and radiant it seemed eager to launch off its pedestal. I remember thinking, if I leave for breakfast, will it escape before I return? The thrill of this encounter compelled me to focus exclusively on sculpting.
— Dave Stevenson, circa 1991

Dave Stevenson has sculpted in studios in Massachusetts, California, Montana, and the Caribbean. He chose these spots for their ready access to snowboarding, surfing, and climbing, activities he cites as inspiration for the signature fluid contours of his work.

Over the course of his twenty-five year career, Stevenson has been awarded numerous grants and commissions and has collaborated with acclaimed filmmakers, choreographers, and musicians. Public art highlights include his monumental bronze Acrobat located outside the Brandywine Realty Trust’s corporate headquarters at FMC Tower in Philadelphia, PA (Pelli-Clarke & Partners Architects). Notable private collections include those of Pfizer, Inc., James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, and the violinist Joshua Bell. Charitable commissions include projects for the William J. Clinton Foundation and Parkinson’s Unity Walk.

Stevenson’s work can be seen on various shows and films on networks and streaming services, including Netflix, ABC, CBS, VH1 Classic, HBO Max, Starzz, and Paramount+. Publications include St. Barth Weekly, Harper’s Bazaar, The Santa Cruz Sentinel, The Wall Street Journal, The Bozeman Chronicle, Town & Country, Seventeen, Ensemble Lifestyles, and People.

A graduate of The College of William and Mary, Stevenson has been represented by Galerie Les Artisans since 2000. The sculptor currently splits his time between a small design studio in Manhattan and a larger live/workspace in the Catskills.
