Tiny Tools, Miniature Rooms, an Exquisitely Small Snail…
I drove to Chicago last week to bring new sculpture to Gallery Victor & attend Tom Bishop’s Chicago International: The World’s Largest & Finest Miniature Show. I purchased these magnificent tiny tools to accompany a miniature replica of my Dad’s workbench that I am building for a (TBA) project with my partner, artist/musician Elizabeth Hodes. Victor kindly arranged a fascinating meet-up for us with miniaturist Jay Kupjack. Jay learned the craft from his father Eugene, the esteemed artisan who assisted Mrs. Narcissa Niblack Thorne with the creation of the renowned “Thorne Rooms” (now housed at The Art Institute of Chicago). Our visit also dovetailed nicely with a vernissage @ Gallery Victor for local painter/educator, Bruno Surdo.
